The process of digitalisation permeates all areas of society, both private and business. The year 2020 has clearly shown where digitisation is already well advanced and where there is a clear need to catch up. One area that seems to be well positioned at first glance is universities, colleges and universities of applied sciences. But a second glance reveals massive gaps in the area of digitisation in higher education administration. We describe the current situation of Swiss universities, colleges and universities of applied sciences in terms of digitisation as well as their reasons and show how the barely manageable data volumes can be made manageable through the introduction of a OneGov GEVER system.
